What Is DALL-E 3?
DALL-E 3 is an AI tool from OpenAI. It makes images from text. You type words. It draws picture for you.
I use it many times. It is very good. But the trick is the prompt. A good prompt gives a good image. A bad prompt gives a bad image.
In this post I share what I learn. I show you prompts for creative images. And prompts for realistic images too.
Why Prompts Matter So Much
DALL-E 3 is smart. It understands long sentences. But it still need your help. You must tell it what you want.
In my experience, short prompts give random results. Like "a cat". You get something, but not what you imagine. So you must add details.
Think about these things:
- What is the subject?
- What is the style?
- What is the light?
- What is the background?
When you answer these, your image gets better.
Prompts for Realistic Images
For real photos, you must use photo words. DALL-E 3 likes camera language. I found that this works very good.
Here is example prompt:
> "A close-up photo of an old fisherman with gray beard. Morning light on his face. Shot with 50mm lens. Soft background blur. Very detailed skin."
This works because I tell the AI it is a photo. I add the lens. I add the light. The result looks real.
More tips for real images:
- Say "photograph" or "photo" at start
- Add camera type like "DSLR" or "Canon"
- Add lens like "85mm" or "wide angle"
- Add light words like "golden hour" or "studio light"
- Add "high detail" or "sharp focus"
Another example:
> "A realistic photo of a coffee cup on wood table. Steam rising. Soft window light from the side. Cozy morning mood. High detail."
When you write like this, the image feels real. I use this style for product photos too.
Prompts for Creative Images
Now let us talk about creative pictures. Here you can be free. You can mix strange ideas.
DALL-E 3 is very good for art. You can ask for any style. Like oil painting. Or cartoon. Or 3D render.
Here is example:
> "A dream city floating in the clouds. Buildings made of glass and gold. Pink and purple sky. Fantasy art style. Very colorful and detailed."
This prompt is fun because it mix real and imagine. The AI loves this.
More tips for creative images:
- Name the art style clearly
- Use color words
- Add mood words like "dreamy" or "dark"
- Mix two ideas that don't normally go together
Another one I like:
> "A robot drinking tea in a Japanese garden. Watercolor painting style. Soft colors. Calm and peaceful mood."
This is simple but the result is beautiful. The mix of robot and tea is what makes it creative.
Be Clear About Style
One big tip from me. Always say the style. This is very important tip.
If you don't say style, DALL-E 3 picks for you. Sometimes it is good. Sometimes not.
Style words you can use:
- Oil painting
- Pencil sketch
- 3D render
- Pixel art
- Photorealistic
- Anime style
- Minimalist
Just add the style at the end. Like "... in anime style." It changes everything.
Use Details But Not Too Many
Details are good. But too many details confuse the AI. I learn this the hard way.
When I write very long prompt with 20 things, the image gets messy. The AI try to add all things. It fails.
So I keep it focused. Maybe 4 to 6 main details. This is enough. Quality is better than quantity.
Try Again and Change Words
First image is not always perfect. This is normal. Do not give up.
I always make few versions. I change small words each time. Like change "sunset" to "sunrise". Or change "happy" to "calm".
Small changes give big difference. This is part of the fun. You learn what words work.
My Final Thoughts
DALL-E 3 is powerful tool. But you control the result with words. Good prompt is the key.
For real images, think like photographer. Use camera words and light words. For creative images, be free and mix ideas. Always say the style.
Start simple. Then add details slow. Test and try again. Soon you make images you are proud of.
I hope these tips help you. Go and try them today. Have fun making images.
